Not really a mistake on Erik’s part. I’d always thought before Kevin Durand’s saying it, Proximus looked like a chimp. A key feature with bonobos is the pink lips that they all have including Koba which Proximus does not. He also has the white goatee that chimps have that bonobos don’t.

Proximus is way too big to be a Bonobo so obviously he's a Chimpanzee. Bonobo's are also called pygmie Chimpanzee mind you and Proximus is quite the opposite of that more like a very large Chimpanzee. Additionaly, Chimpanzees can be as dark as Bonobos although they're in the minority. So why are you chocked exactly that Proximus is a Chimp and not a Bonobo!?

Maybe a Bili ape? That specific bread of chimp from the Congo is known to be 6ft tall.

Considering the fact that Kevin Durand, I think Wes ball, several articles, his wiki page, and more say he’s a bonobo and it’s already been confirmed. This is most likely just a mistake on his part. He likely looked like a dark skinned chimp due to bonobos often being referred to as Pygmy chimps. This is most likely just a mistake on his part.

Generally chimps are supposed to lose their pinkness as they get older, they get darker as they get older. Older alpha chimps also develop silverbacks like gorillas. A lot of the chimps we follow in the originally trilogy never really lose much of their pinkness even over many years. It's often been speculated this was done in part to distinguish them from bonobos as most people in real life can't tell chimpanzees and bonobos apart. All the rumored bonobos in the originally trilogy just looked like older real life chimps, darker, greyer etc. We may never know, all the ape species are significantly sized up in the movies too.

It's always good when movie producers mix CGI and real life. It was used back then in Michael Bay Transformers, it's used there either so that's why this movies looks so stunning. I personally love the scenery of the overgrown city.
